COVID-19 Update 3/24
March 24, 2020
As of this week, there are 18 cases of COVID-19 in the DRC. In response, the government has made the difficult decision to close all schools and have recommended that people avoid large gatherings as an effort to slow the spread of the virus. Currently, the national closure is scheduled to last for 30 days, but it could last longer if deemed necessary.
While there are no confirmed cases of the virus in the Eastern part of the country, where our projects are located, the situation is changing rapidly. Our staff is working hard to adapt to new information and new developments.
In response to the outbreak, our incredible school principles are in close communication with our program and local staff to develop a distance learning plan and community health outreach strategy, including the implementation of preventive health measures in our schools and local communities.
We are so grateful for our community of Peace Partners! Because of your monthly support, we will be able to pay our teachers and staff during this uncertain time, even as our schools are temporarily shut. Like many of us, our teachers rely on their monthly paychecks - on behalf of our team and staff, we extend our heartfelt gratitude for your support!
Although there are many challenges and unknowns at this time, we feel encouraged and energized by our partners, and we feel confident that we will emerge from this stronger as a global community.
