End of Year Campaign
In the last several months, war and violence in the region have escalated rapidly. Nearly 300,000 people have been displaced in the region due to the advancing M23 rebel group. Though our teachers, staff and students are living in crisis, waiting on the edge of war, now more than ever we continue to see the value of education in war zones.
This is a fundamental time for children and youth in the Congo. The trauma of waiting for a rebel group to take over your city, the fear of not knowing where you’ll run to or what life will look like when you get there.
However, education in emergency contexts is crucial in minimizing trauma, providing a safe place to learn, to dream. These are critical times in the formation of our students and how they relate (and respond) to conflict and violence. With your support, we can ensure that our students are given the tools to follow a better, more peaceful path.
This December we’re looking to raise $250K to support our current school network as well as expand out our Justice Rising strategies to other areas with conflict. This includes innovative solutions such as the Chalkboard Guides, and piloting other research initiatives to better serve communities in conflict.
